The 2009 harvest marked the beginning of a revolution in the Prosecco production area: the so called "Guarantee for limited and controlled production area-DOCG" was finally designed for the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, Montello and Colli Asolani hills.
The Prosecco-wine produced in the other nine italian provinces can be identified with the mark DOC. This means that a higher quality has been officially accorded to the grapes produced in Conegliano and Valdobbiadene area.
Among these hills, a even higher special quality Prosecco, shortly named Cartizze DOCG can be found. The controlled and guaranteed production area of Cartizze is very small, about 107 hectares, closed to Valdobbiadene. Here the hills are very steep and sunny but the result is unique: a wine with pure, sublime taste.
The vineyards of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, thanks their morphology, ground composition, sun exposure, fresh air and of course the ability of the tenants are giving the highest Prosecco DOCG quality.
The Prosecco DOC produced in the other nine provinces is a good basic wine.
